The Trusty Finger Clarissa’s scared. She's caught in a fierce storm . The wind blows and howls flipping chairs and dogs and cats and morning newspapers left on the porch. It blows with all its might and is taking her with it!
She decides she must use her trusty finger for it is filled with mysterious power. It once before saved her when she thought she was doomed. She takes a deep breath, holds her arm out and, drawing a circle in the air with it,lets her trusty finger point her in a direction. She holds her aim as steady as the blustery wind will let her then flies with all her might.
Soon she begins to feel tired. Her shoulders feel like they’re on fire from the flapping. Her body feels like a lead weight. The wind kicks and shoves at her like she’s a small leaf. It blows in her eyes and her beak, twists her clothes around her like wash hung on a drying line. It would be so easy to stop flapping and just let go.
But Clarissa doesn't give up. She believes in her trusty finger. Just when she doesn’t think she can flap one more time Clarissa thinks she sees the Andersson barn. Her finger has been pointing to it the whole time! Joy and relief bloom like a rose in her heart at the sight of the big boxy building. With one last joyful surge she breaks free of the howling storm’s grip and floats down down down.
